REGION – On Tuesday, Oct. 3 join the Green Mountain Club Manchester section for a hike up Haystack Mountain in Pawlet. Meet at 11 a.m. on Church Street by the Dorset Inn to car pool to the beginning of the hike, where there is limited parking.
This is a moderate hike because of the steep part on the last third of the hike. Distance is about three miles round trip with about 1,000 feet elevation gain. At the top there is a 360-degree view. Bring food, fluids, an extra layer and a hat, and a raincoat just in case. Poles are really helpful for the steep part of this hike, especially for coming back down.
A second chance to climb Haystack Mountain is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. On Sunday, Oct. 8 climb Bromley Mountain from the north. Meet at noon at the Mad Tom Notch Long Trail parking lot for a round trip hike from the north to the summit of Bromley Mountain and back for a total of five miles, 1000 feet elevation change. This is a moderate hike. Bring snacks, fluids, extra layer, hat, and raincoat. Poles are always useful.
