CHESTER, Vt. – Every year the Chester Rod & Gun club sponsors 2 scholarships to the Green Mountain Conservation Camp, GMCC, held weekly throughout the summer. The campers have the opportunity to learn about fish, wildlife, botany, forestry, firearm safety, first aid as well as meet State Game Wardens, foresters, fisheries and wildlife biologists. Hiking and canoeing, archery, .22 rifle and shotgun shooting are just a few of the activities that will be available for campers participation. Cultivating an interest and caring stewardship of Vermont’s wildlife resources is the focus of GMCC.

Boys and girls can attend but there are separate weeks for each. Camps are located at Buck Lake Camp in Woodbury or a Kehoe Camp in Castleton. Campers arrive on a Sunday and are picked up on Friday.  More information on the camps can be found at www.vtfishandwildlife.com

Youth, age 12 and up, interested in attending a camp can apply for a scholarship from the Rod & Gun Club by writing a 1-page essay on their interest in the outdoors and why they would be a good candidate for the camp.

Please send essay to Chester Rod & Gun Club, P.O Box 104, Chester VT 05143.

Scholarship essay deadline is April 1.
