PROCTORSVILLE, Vt. – Ronald P. Butler Sr., 86, passed away unexpectedly at his home Monday morning, Oct. 1, 2018. He was born Feb. 12, 1932 in Proctorsville, Vt., the son of Roy A. and Luella M. (Place) Butler. He attended Cavendish schools and graduated from Chester High School.
On April 15, 1953, Ron married Shirley Stevens in Salina, Kan.
He served in the United States Air Force for four years, and the United States Army for 20 years, serving during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Army, he served as town clerk and treasurer for the Town of Cavendish for 23 years, retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed photography, gardening, dancing, bird watching, and vacationing in Aruba.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of Proctorsville; three sons Steven Butler of Perryville, Md., Ronald P. Butler Jr. of Buxton, Maine, and Garry Butler of Wallingford, Vt.; two daughters Tina Butler and Laura Butler both of Proctorsville, Vt.; two brothers Richard Butler of Baltimore, Vt. and Ellsworth Butler of Cavendish, Vt.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and by one brother Gordon Butler.
A graveside service was held Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Proctorsville, Vt. Reverend Gerry Piper, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Springfield, officiated.
