CHESTER, Vt. – Retha C. Kendall, a longtime resident of Chester, Vt., died peacefully at her home Aug. 28, 2018 at the age of 95. Retha was born Sept. 5, 1923 in Springfield, Vt., the youngest child of Fred and Edith Cluff.
Retha worked for the Town of Chester for 21 years as a secretary to the town manager and to the Chief of Police. She was also chief dispatcher for the Chester Police Department, Chester Ambulance, and Chester Fire Department, a job she continued to be a part-time after her retirement.
Retha enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, and reading. She frequently babysat for her grandchildren and many other children in Chester.
She is survived by her four sons Lee and Helen Kendall of Keene, N.H., Kim Kendall of Chester, Vt., Dana and Connie Kendall of Andover, Vt., and Gale and Eva Kendall of Chester, Vt.; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vt. Reverend Gerry Piper will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Chester, Vt.
