SHELBURNE, Vt. – Nettie Mae “Betty” Ellis Slattery, 90, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 28, 2018 at The Arbors in Shelburne, Vt. while surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Nettie Mae was born Dec. 28, 1927 in Charlestown, N.H., the daughter of the late Joseph David and Ruth Lawyer Ellis. She married James F. Slattery Jr. June 12, 1948 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Burlington, Vt.
After high school, Nettie spent most of her years as a secretary for insurance firms in the Burlington area. She loved gardening, sewing, and cooking for her family. Her passion was working with engineers in development of her land in Fletcher, Vt.
Nettie Mae is survived by her three children James F. Slattery III and his wife Pamela of Essex Jct. and their daughters Amie, Jamie, and Sara Jean; Sharon L. Slattery of Cavendish, Vt.; Steven P. Slattery of Fort Myers, Fla. and his children Kristine and Michael; and grandsons Jeffrey and twins Jason and Greg Lawrence. She also leaves behind several great-grandchildren, close friends, and relatives. Nettie Mae is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James F. Slattery, and daughter Patricia A. Slattery of Wells, Maine.
