LUDLOW, Vt. – Gilbert Henry Blanchard Sr. age 85 passed away Thursday June 8, 2017 surrounded by his family at the Gill Odd Fellows Home. Gilbert was born in Bridgewater, Vt. April 17, 1932 the son of Wilbur and Agnes (Merriam) Blanchard. Mr. Blanchard proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. In his earlier years Mr. Blanchard worked as a carpenter and in the Woolen Mills in Ludlow. He afterwards worked for many years as a machinist at General Electric from where he retired.
He was married to Geraldine Andrews on September 5, 1951. She predeceased him on June 3, 2017.
Gilbert is survived by, two sons; Stephen Blanchard and his wife Pam of North Springfield, VT, and Gilbert Blanchard JR. and his wife Sandy of Cavendish, VT; two daughters, Sharon Crosby, wife of the late Ronald Crosby of Chittenden, VT and Mary Benson and her husband George Jr. of Ludlow, VT; His brother, Warren Blanchard of Rutland and his sister Nellie Prouty of Rutland. Also surviving are many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at the Pleasant View Cemetery at a later date.
