SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – George J. Saris, Jr., 72, died peacefully at Springfield Hospital on March 27, 2017.
George was born on Feb. 4, 1945, in Newton, Mass., son of George and Lee Saris. He graduated from Newton North High School in 1963. He joined the U.S. Navy Seabees after high school and served two tours of duty in Viet Nam. After moving to Massachusetts from New York, George worked both in his own business in Cape Cod and for EMC Corporation in Mass. George enjoyed skydiving, ocean windsurfing, downhill skiing and golf.
George was involved in veterans’ groups as both a supporter and fundraiser. He was a member of the Crown Point Country Club, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 679, and VFW Post 771, serving as Jr. Vice Commander and Sr. Vice Commander in Springfield, Vt.
George is survived by his loving wife and partner Dayle Brown Saris of Vermont his three sons: Adam J. Saris of Calif. (Hon. Veteran); Aaron J. Saris of Worcester, Mass. (Hon. Veteran); and Andrew J. Saris. George is also survived by his bothers Richard L. Saris of Newton, Mass., and Paul A. Saris of Framingham, Mass., as well as grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, stepchildren, many nieces and nephews and grandnephews and grandnieces.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lee Saris, and his father, George J. Saris, Sr. and brother, Lawrence M. Saris of West Newton, Mass.
A memorial will be scheduled for April in Massachusetts and one in Vermont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301, or to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, 55 Day Lane Williston, VT 05495.
