CHESTER, Vt. – George E. Douglas, 84, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning Aug. 4, 2017, at the Springfield Hospital in Springfield, Vt. He was born March 7, 1933, in Springfield, the son of Clyde B. and Helene H. (Moses) Douglas. He attended Chester schools, graduating from Chester High School.
He served in the United States Navy. On June 20, 1959, He married Frances Jean Perry in Springfield.
As a young man he worked on the family farm in Chester. He worked as a carpenter, repaired antique furniture and owned and operated a firewood business. He also worked as a custodian at Green Mountain Union High School in Chester.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, reading, woodworking, cutting wood, and collecting. As a young man he visited and worked in Alaska and always wanted to return.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Douglas of Chester; two sons – Bruce Douglas and Darryl Douglas of Chester; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister-in-law Ruth Douglas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one brother, Don, and one grandson, Aaron.
There will be no services.
