Summer happenings at the Bellows Falls Area Senior Center

BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. – Happy summer! We are excited to offer the following upcoming trips.

Join us as we travel with Best of Times to see Bobby Rydell Live in concert, Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Venus De Milo, Swansea, Mass. Rydell first took the stage as a professional drummer at the age of 9. A polished performer by the age of 19, he was the youngest person ever to headline the famous Copacabana in New York. Bobby’s recording career earned him 34 Top 40 hits, placing him in the top five artists of his era. Come join us and see this living legend. Price includes transportation, lunch, show, tax, and meal and driver gratuity. Plated lunch choice includes chicken parmesan or baked scrod.

On Aug. 22, we are taking the center van to Jean’s Playhouse in Lincoln, N.H. to see a matinee production of “Seussical the Musical.” The Cat in the Hat is back and narrates this delightful blending of Dr. Seuss’s most famous tales. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community though challenged, emerge triumphant. Price includes transportation, lunch, and show!

There are several ongoing activities at the center include multiple Bone Builders programs six classes a week. Basic Tai Chi for fall prevention is Thursdays from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Please contact instructor Susan Williams 802-376-5173 for more information. Cynthia Herron hosts a bible study Thursday mornings from 10 – 11 a.m.

Chair caning meets Mondays at 1 p.m. If you have a chair that needs repair or would like to learn the art of chair caning, please call!

Wednesday’s art class is now visual arts: encompassing scrapbooking, adult coloring, and stamping. Bring your own materials and have fun socializing. Take advantage of our large tables to stretch out and enjoy your crafts!

The Knit and Stitch group meets Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. They can help you finish a project, repair an item, and even take on special projects such as baby blankets and gifts. The group is happy to donate “Knitted Knockers” to breast cancer survivors. Stop by and ask for Betty for more information.

The BFASC Quilters meet the second Wednesday of the month at 9 a.m. Need help starting or finishing a quilting project? These ladies have a wealth of knowledge and experience.

The VNA offers a bimonthly foot care clinic; this service is by appointment only so please call the center for availability.

Nickel Bingo is held every Tuesday starting at 12:30 p.m. with 20 games played.

The Gad about Girls meet the first Thursday of every month for lunch.

The computer lab and exercise equipment are available five days a week on a first come, first serve basis.

The Bellows Falls Area Senior Center is open to local seniors aged 50 and over. We do not charge membership fees, so feel free to drop in and check us out. We serve a hot lunch Monday through Friday starting at 11:30 a.m. Lunch includes entrée, starch, vegetable, roll and butter, desert, and beverage for a suggested for seniors over 60 and a fixed price for those under 60.
