CHESTER, Vt. – BINGO for Books was the big winner Wednesday, April 4 at the Chester Andover Elementary School Literacy Night! The children flocked to this table to play BINGO and win the beautiful new books! Many children took home more than one book due to the generous donations of Phoenix Books Misty Valley in Chester. Phoenix books also donated gift cards, which were won or raffled off throughout the evening and were won by four children and one lucky adult! Jan Tofferi, a former teacher, donated over 50 books for the children!

The Literacy Night theme was “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” and children were able to try on the costumes and use the props from the play, which had been performed the previous week. A platter of the much desired Turkish Delight was sampled by all who attended.

There were literacy games galore, but a favorite activity was using the giant magnetic word cards to make silly sentences. Other children competed by trying to guess the meaning of idiomatic phrases and became quite competitive!

Chester Andover never forgets its younger siblings and a special table of activities was provided for the little ones, including taking home a reading buddy from the overflowing wagon of stuffed animals.

The children and parents love the full on literacy party each year at CAES and the hope is to grow and offer more opportunities to learn every year!
