SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Springfield Hospital has recently received two bequests totaling almost $200,000. James and Eleanor Krieger of Chester, Vt. established a charitable remainder trust in which Springfield Hospital had an interest. Dr. Krieger passed away in 2012 and Mrs. Krieger in 2017. The hospital’s share of that trust was $11,308.

Kenneth and Frances Balch of Springfield, Vt. established a charitable remainder trust that named Springfield Hospital as a beneficiary. Mrs. Balch passed away in 2014 and Mr. Balch in 2015. The hospital is receiving $186,000 from that trust.

“These two couples were long time friends and supporters of Springfield Hospital,” says Larry Kraft, director of Development. “It was a pleasure to spend time with them at our events and an honor for us to be included in their legacies.”

Proceeds from both estates will support the renovation of the hospital’s Childbirth Center. “With the help of these donors, and those who are giving to our Springfield Hospital Delivers campaign,” states Kraft, “we are determined that our Childbirth Center will be the best possible place to give birth in the region.”

An exhibit that honors all bequests and trusts received by Springfield Hospital since it opened in 1914 is located near the hospital’s Level B waiting area. For information about making a gift to Springfield Hospital, please contact Larry Kraft, 802-885-7644 or email lkraft@springfieldmed.org.
