Membership programs were created to offer protection to members by controlling out of pocket expenses. For an annual fee, anyone can join and be relieved of expenses such as insurance co-payments and deductibles for medically necessary emergency ambulance transports. As a member, you won’t have to worry about the inability of being able to pay for these additional expenses and being sent to a collection agency.
This program is not an insurance policy and is not intended to replace having health insurance coverage as mandated by the Federal Government. The difference between a membership program and an insurance policy is that with an insurance policy, the Town of Ludlow Community Ambulance Service will file a claim with the subscriber’s insurance for ambulance services provided and balance bill an individual for the amount that the insurance company did not pay. Whereas, if you become a member of this program then Community Ambulance Service will accept insurance payments as payment in full. The Town of Ludlow Community Ambulance Service will never bill its’ members for co-payments, deductibles or for partial payments not made by insurance companies.
Protection from denials is a major benefit of this program. It is common for insurance companies including Medicare to deny between 20 – 40 percent of all ambulance claims submitted. This may mean that the entire ambulance service bill would become the patient’s responsibility. The Town of Ludlow Community Ambulance Service members would be protected from denials of medically necessary emergency transports.
Members can be rest assured that if their medically necessary emergency transport is not fully paid or even denied, then the member will never be responsible for paying the remaining claim balance.
Per our membership agreement, the Town of Ludlow Community Ambulance Service agrees to provide all persons living in your household with unlimited medically necessary emergency ambulance service billing protection for up to one full year. Memberships are accepted anytime throughout the year; however, they will expire on Oct. 31 of each year, and you must be a member prior to you/your family members needing the Town of Ludlow Community Ambulance Service to provide medically necessary emergency transport services.
What Communities are eligible?
This membership is limited to those individuals/families in our normal coverage area, which include our local Vermont communities of Ludlow, Proctorsville, Cavendish and Plymouth (those living South of Route 100A).
Who is covered?
Each membership covers the applicant and all persons claimed as dependents on the applicant’s most recent Federal Income Tax Return, and who reside in our normal call area.
Cost of Service
The cost is only $45/year per household membership and should be paid directly to: Community Ambulance Service. Memberships will expire Oct. 31 of each year. What if I have Insurance Coverage?
The Town of Ludlow Community Ambulance Service will bill the insurance company, with whom you provide us the insurance information, first. However, keep in mind that your health Insurance may cover only a portion of the ambulance bill. Most insurance company policies that cover ambulance services may have a high annual deductible or copay amount. We recommend that you find out what your insurance policy covers for ambulance emergency transport and if the allowed amount is applied towards your annual deductible and is this coverage is subject to copay.
What If I do not have Insurance?
As stated above, this membership is not to replace health insurance coverage. However, if, for any reason, you do not have insurance coverage then you can still become a member for the same cost of $45/year per household and receive the benefits listed above.
Additional information regarding Ambulance Billing
The Town of Ludlow Community Ambulance Service reserves the right to any third part billing. The Town of Ludlow Community Ambulance Service agrees to bill your insurance company on your behalf as part of your membership. The membership agreement requires you to send The Town of Ludlow Community Ambulance Service any insurance payments received by you/your family members for all services performed by the Town of Ludlow Community Ambulance Service.
Becoming a member provides medically necessary emergency ambulance service provided by the Town of Ludlow Community Ambulance Service for you and all persons claimed as dependents on the applicant’s most recent Federal Income Tax Return, and is renewable in June of each year.

Important Reasons for becoming a member in our Subscription Program
Community Ambulance Service provides Advanced Life Support Ambulance service. The cost is only $45 per year, even if you do not have insurance or have large deductibles/or copays. The once a year paid membership fee covers you and everyone living in your household until June 30 of each year. A low price for peace of mind of not having to worry about non-covered or partially covered charges.

Keep in mind that becoming a member means that you will never be charged for the balance of a medically necessary ambulance transport, provided & billed by Community Ambulance Service, that is not covered by insurance during your subscription year.
