SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Wellwood Orchards held their 10th annual Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday, Sept. 2 to celebrate and thank all of their loyal customers. It was a warm, sunny day with a cool breeze, and families gathered to kick off fall.

Live music by The Imperfectionists kept the large crowd entertained, while free hotdogs, chips and sodas were served. There were plenty of activities to do for children of all ages; Cheryl the Clown entertained kids with balloon animals, tattoo and face painting booths were set up, Squeeze our own official Vermont Apple Lady posed for pictures, and other games and contests with prizes kept the kids smiling. The petting zoo was another great attraction, full of children excited to pet and feed the goats, cows, pigs, bunnies, roosters, and many other animals alike.

Weathersfield Fire and Police Departments brought down a fire truck and a cruiser for the kids to explore and take pictures in. The earliest customers to visit them received a fireman’s hat! There was also an antique tractor set up with fall festive decorations for professional group and family photos, which were printed there for customers to take home.

Inside the store customers could purchase Wellwood’s famous apple cider donuts and other tasty homemade treats, which had a long line of patient customers with a general consensus that, “if you go to Wellwood, you’ve got to get some donuts.” The store also offered apple cider, shirts, house décor and more.

Customers could purchase a bag or two of apples as well or buy a bag and pick their own! Tractor rides brought people down to the orchard to pick their own apples; or if they felt ambitious, they could enjoy the beautiful day and walk.

The donuts and the pick-your-own apples were both crowd pleasers, “but for the Customer Appreciation Day, all of the entertainment and free food and hot dogs are what gather people for the event,” said Lillian, a proprietor of Wellwood Orchards. The day was a great success, and the orchard had a “really good turnout,” expressed Lillian. “The Fire Department estimated around 10 thousand people.”

If you missed this year’s annual event, be sure to stop in for some apples and donuts during their daily open hours 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. They are located at 529 Wellwood Orchards Road in Springfield, and can be contacted at 802-263-5200.
