Chester fishing derby

CHESTER, Vt. – The Annual Chester Rod & Gun Club’s fishing derby was held this past Saturday, May 13, at the Chester reservoir. The Rod & Gun Club does a wonderful job with the fishing derby every year. The day before the derby the Fish & Game Department stocked the reservoir to make sure the kids caught trout. Not only were trout caught but a few anglers caught perch as well.

The Rod & Gun Club awarded prizes for the first fish caught, the largest fish and the most fish caught. Rods and reels, tackle boxes and other fishing equipment were prizes this year.

I’ve been covering this event for several years now. It’s a lot of fun to watch these kids learning to fish. They don’t care what they catch as long as they catch fish. Smiles were abundant as was excitement.

Some of these kids I have seen in previous years. All are with parents or grandparents. It’s a great way to spend quality time with your kids. The forecasted rain held off until later in the day. All in all it was a great day.
