162 Main St., Grafton, Vt.
MKT: Grafton is Grafton’s local market in the heart of the village, offering a sophisticated version of the classic country store in a 200-year-old building. In 2015 it replaced the long-time Grafton Village Store, which had closed that year.
Co-owners Ali Hartman and June Lupiani are young moms who moved here to raise their families, met for the first time in Grafton, and decided that “logistically and emotionally the town needed a store,” said Hartman. Both had had careers elsewhere that benefit the business while offering an updated “Vermont experience.” The women employ about 12 local people on average, but in small-town tradition, “Everybody does everything,” including the owners.

The general store carries Vermont-made products from foodstuffs and beverages to kitchenware and beauty products, plus grocery staples.
MKT: Grafton also offers in-house catering, including breakfast-to-go and lunch daily, as well as fresh, complete dinners-to-go, Mon-Wed-Fri nights. The store also hosts private events.
“We took all the great things about the general store and try to preserve it. We get to know our customers, what they like,” Hartman said, while moving into the 21st century with a forward-looking, sustainable business model.
MKT: Grafton is open Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
