REGION – Phoenix Books celebrated its tenth anniversary and Phoenix Books Essex’s recent move. The program included an array of events for all ages, including story times, costumed character appearances, a ribbon cutting, an anniversary party, book talks by local authors, and more.

While the store’s new location at 2 Carmichael Street has been open for business since July, the official ribbon cutting took place on Oct. 20. The new location is just around the corner from the bookstore’s original spot at Essex Outlets. DeSanto reaffirmed the store’s commitment to Essex, and said that the new lease is for ten years or more. “We love this community, and our customers have been strong supporters of Phoenix Books,” said DeSanto.

He adds that, since the business has expanded, the Essex location needed more office, shipping and receiving and storage spaces, which the larger location provides. The additional space will also allow Phoenix Books Essex to increase inventory, expand bargain book offerings, explore the possibility of selling used books and better serve the community through partnerships with schools, offsite events, and other local organizations.

Phoenix Books was founded in Essex in 2007 by Michael DeSanto and Renee Reiner, and has since added locations in Burlington, Rutland, and Chester, Vt., plus a sister store in Woodstock. “We believe that local, bricks-and-mortar bookshops offer something very important to a community – a physical place to go to discover and exchange ideas, to have conversations with neighbors, and to gather as community members,” says DeSanto. “It is part of our mission at Phoenix Books to ensure that local bookshops continue to be a vital part of Vermont’s communities – and to engage with and serve the communities where we do business.”

Phoenix Books Essex is located at 2 Carmichael Street in Essex, Vermont. Phoenix Books Misty Valley is located 58 Common Street, Chester. For more information, please call 802-875-3400 or visit www.phoenixbooks.biz.
