CHESTER, Vt. – Chester Health Center celebrated National Dentists’ Day by welcoming the community for an open house on Monday evening, March 6. Local residents turned out to “meet and greet” two local dentists  — Dr. Madhav Shrirao, the new dentist at Chester Health Center, and Dr. Michael Foster, Director of Dental Services for Springfield Medical Care Systems (SMCS), who practices at the Ludlow Dental Center.

Joshua Dufresne, MBA, Chief of Practice Operations and HRSA Project Director commented, “We’re pleased to increase our dental services. Chester’s Health Center’s family dental service will help expand access for new and existing patients in the region. We identified dental care as a priority need in our Community Health Needs Assessment and some patients have waited for services due to limited access, or insurance and/or financial reasons.”

He continues, “The new Chester location doubles our existing FQHC dental capacity, offering care with fees based on a sliding fee scale and financial assistance available to those who may need it.”

Dr. Shrirao shared his thoughts regarding his reception in the area, “I want to take this opportunity to thank our community for the warm welcome. I feel proud to be part of SMCS and its mission to provide ease of access for dental care in our community. I look forward to using my skills and training to help make dental care available to all in the southern Vermont area.”

Dr. Shrirao joined the Chester practice in January 2017 following the retirement of Dr. Stephen Saunders. Dr. Shrirao received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Boston University and completed his General Practice Residency at Montefiore Medical Center of Albert Einstein Medical College, Bronx, NY.

Springfield Medical Care Systems is a not-for-profit, community-based health care system that includes a nine-site community health center network and Springfield Hospital. SMCS serves southeastern Vermont and southwestern New Hampshire. Health care services are accessible to all based on a sliding fee scale and include primary and preventive care for people of all ages. Financial assistance is available based on family size and income. For more information, please visit www.springfieldmed.org.
