Dona McKenzie Wins Award at Vermont Quilt Festival 2016

LUDLOW, Vt. – Ludlow resident Dona McKenzie was the recipient of a Third Place Ribbon in the prestigious Vermont Quilt Festival. As a first time entrant, Ms. McKenzie was thrilled with the award. The Vermont Quilt Festival celebrated their 40th Anniversary and Ruby Jubilee at the annual event in Essex Junction, held June 23-26th.

Dona’s award winning quilt was based on a Deb Tucker pattern called Galaxy. Ms. McKenzie’s entry was named “Pop Star”, and featured bright colors and a modern look. “Pop Star brings to mind all the young music stars with big dreams and huge ambitions.”

“Pop Star” was pieced by Dona McKenzie, and longarm quilted by Dona McKenzie and Nick Hubbell. Ms. McKenzie is the managing partner in the Ludlow-based business Silverlining Quilt Finishing, LLC (www.silverliningquilts.com), with her husband, Nick Hubbell. She is a member of the Vermont Modern Quilt Guild, the Cheshire Quilt Guild, and Small Pond Quilters, a Vermont consortium of machine quilters. She is also a professor of Communications and Design at Granite State College.
