ACWORTH, N.H. – Summer is officially over, and the days are getting shorter, but autumn in Acworth is going to be splendid. From the gorgeous burst of color gracing our lovely hills to the plethora of harvest fairs, craft fairs and community events in the upcoming weeks, it will be a busy place! The Village Store is planning some fun events for the coming months. Here’s what’s going on in October:
Saturday Pizza Night continues through mid October from 5:30-7:30 PM. Musical talent featured for Oct. 7 is Carl Beverly and on Oct. 14 is “Doc” and Liz. Come on over for some good food and great music!
The annual pig roast
“Swill, Swine and Swing,” will be held on Oct. 8, 4-7 p.m. The delicious menu will include roast pork, corn bread, coleslaw, baked beans and dessert. There will also be BBQ chicken leg quarters available if you aren’t a fan of pork. You can get “to go” packages as well. There will be live music. This year the Village Store is adding a pumpkin carving and decorating contest.
Pumpkin carving contest
Plan to buy your pumpkin at the Village Store some time before the pig roast, or you can use one you’ve grown yourself or purchased elsewhere. You get to decorate or carve it at home and bring it to the Village Store at 4 p.m. on the day of the pig roast. The Village Store wants to thank Pete’s Stand in Walpole, N.H., for their help in providing the Village Store with pumpkins for this event.
We will have four categories for judging: Adult – carved, Adult – decorated/painted, Child (13 or under) – carved, and Child (13 or under) – decorated/painted.
Purchase a ballot when you purchase your dinner ticket, so you can vote for your favorite entry. Votes will be counted at 6:30 p.m. Winners do not have to be present when the winners are announced. The highest vote getter in each category will receive a $10 gift certificate at the Village Store.
At the end of the evening you can bring your pumpkin home with you.
The Acworth Village Store is run by The Acworth Community Project which is a N.H. non-profit organization. They hold one board meeting a month and have some interesting and fun plans for the upcoming year, which include historical and educational events and fundraising activities.
